TICKETS $25 - ALL AGES Minntah Haefker is a young Thai American vocalist from Northwest Oregon. She recently graduated from Lincoln High School and currently attends Portland State University. A rising talent, Minntah is known for her distinctive blend of jazz and classical artistry. From 9 up until 18, she primarily studied classical voice at the Astoria Conservatory and with Angela Niederloh. She began performing on stage at the age of seven as a guest artist with her uncle, Béla Balogh, and the band 3 Leg Torso. In 2022, Minntah shifted her focus toward jazz and has since performed with numerous local groups and artists, including The Single Malt Trio, Pink Martini, Jimmie Herrod, Gina Saputo, Tom Grant, Joe Bagg, Randy Porter, Dan Faehnle, Bill Athens, Tim Gilson, and Christopher Brown, while also collaborating with popular groups in Thailand. Minntah also values learning about different cultures and has a strong international presence. Following an opera workshop in Italy in 2024, she has performed with jazz groups in Berlin, Hamburg, Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Hanoi. Minntah has been a special guest of Representative Maxine Dexter at the state capitol, appeared at the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, performed multiple times at Jazz on the River, and was selected as a featured young artist by Oregon ArtsWatch in 2025. In 2024, The Minntah Quartet was formed, with current core members Brent Follis, Clay Giberson, and Shawn Wang. That same year, Minntah and Brent launched the seasonal jazz series “Minntah and Friends” in Astoria, featuring outstanding guest artists from across the Pacific Northwest.

Minntah and Friends

Join us on Saturday, August 2, from 1:30–3:30 PM at Cargo Portland for a cheerful afternoon of jazz, hosted by the charming and talented Minntah, joined by her dear friend and gifted pianist, Isaac Briare.

Minntah has become a beloved presence at Cargo’s Astoria location, where she’s been hosting a wildly popular seasonal jazz series for the past year. She frequently collaborates with drummer Brent Follis to bring some of the Northwest’s finest jazz musicians to the coast. Past performances have featured the Minntah Quintet, 3 Leg Torso, Gina Saputo, Clay Giberson, Joe Bagg, Bill Athens, Tim Gilson, Dominic Castillo, Tim Wilcox, Paul Mazzio, Ross Garlow and many more. Her next Astoria installment is with Single Malt Trio on September 20th. When Minntah proposed performing at our Portland location, we couldn’t say no! Minntah and Isaac’s musical partnership began at Portland’s Lincoln High School. Since then, the duo has continued to perform together, often delighting passersby at the PSU Farmers Market—always with Taiwanese buns in hand. On August 2nd, they’ll bring their chemistry and dynamic sound to our Portland Cargo elevator stage, performing a joyful mix of jazz tunes to enhance your shopping experience.
